Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass remains focused heavily on homelessness, housing and public safety as she heads into the 2026 mayoral election. Her administration's Inside Safe program continues to be a major part of her homelessness strategy, although the city's housing crisis remains substantial. Recent reporting indicates that thousands of Los Angeles residents continue to live in vehicles, demonstrating the scale of the problem despite the administration's interventions. 


Bass has also continued to represent Los Angeles nationally. In June she addressed the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Long Beach, discussing issues affecting large American cities. 

Her recent record is therefore best characterized as a combination of homelessness intervention, housing development, public safety and national urban-policy advocacy, with homelessness remaining both her administration's most visible achievement area and its biggest unresolved challenge.
