Mayor Steven Reed's work during May and June 2026 included community development, youth engagement, infrastructure advocacy and improvements to public spaces.

In May, Montgomery announced plans to renovate the historic Fairview Farmers Market, an important community location for fresh food, local growers and neighborhood connections. The renovation was part of broader efforts connected to revitalization in West Montgomery.  Montgomery AL

The city also announced the opening of public swimming pools for the summer, giving residents access to recreational opportunities during the warmer months. These types of public facilities are particularly important for families and young people who need safe, affordable places to spend their summer. Montgomery AL

Youth participation was another important area. The Montgomery City-County Public Library launched a Teen Advisory Board for young people ages 12–18. The program gives teenagers opportunities to influence library programming and participate in meaningful community involvement. Montgomery AL

Mayor Reed also participated in the U.S. Conference of Mayors' annual meeting in June, where major issues including housing, public safety and infrastructure investment were discussed. His involvement gave Montgomery representation in national conversations about issues affecting cities and their residents. Montgomery AL

These activities show a broad commitment to improving Montgomery through neighborhood investment, youth participation, recreation and attention to long-term infrastructure needs.
